Gwendolyn McDade
91, of Saratoga, Calif., passed away May 3, 2006. Gwen is survived by her
daughter Joey Vaudagna; her son-in-law Jim Vaudagna, three grandchildren - Dina,
Kevin, and Scott, and two great-grandchildren - Keegan and Carly. Two daughters,
Anna Johnson and Kathy Ornstein, predeceased Gwen by several years.
Gwen's first career was as a Naval Nurse, stationed at Pearl Harbor. There she
cared for Admiral Nimitz as his private duty nurse when he had malaria. Gwen's
second career was a preschool teacher. In 1988, she was honored by the
Professional Association for Childhood Education as the Teacher of the Year for
the state of California.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on May 8, at 4:00 p.m. at Presentation High
School Chapel, 2281 Plummer Avenue, San Jose 95125. Remembrances may be made to
Presentation High School. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Los Angeles.
